Constitution

THE PREAMBLE

NOTING that the ELCK was born out of the work of the Swedish Lutheran

Mission (SLM) in 1948, and the first Constitution was constituted in 1963 and amended in 1973, 1995, 2001 and 2002;

 REALIZING that the successful operations of the Church depend upon sound

Constitutional footing;

 ACKNOWLEDGING that the ideal Constitution for the Church is the

Command of God as contained in the Holy Bible;

 BELIEVING that the Constitution herein contained reflects the will of God for his Church as inspired through the General Assembly of this Church;

 BELIEVING that the Church must thrive upon guided preaching of the

Gospel and proper administration of the Holy Sacraments; and

 RECOGNIZING that the Constitution of an institution requires continuous revision to accommodate emerging needs;

WE the members of the ELCK gathered at this Congregation of the General Assembly hereby adopt, enact and give this Constitution unto ourselves and future generations.
